Looking To Get Into The Trucking Industry? Tips To Help You Find A Good Company

If you love to travel and enjoy experiencing the beauty that exists all over the country, becoming a truck driver could be the ideal position for you. Truckers get to enjoy a level of independence that you don't often find when you are tied to a desk, not to mention getting paid to exercise as you load and unload trucks each day. Maybe you know a few people who are involved in the trucking industry and they've bragged about it so much that you're ready to join the mix. Read through the information below so you'll have a better idea of how to choose the right company to kick off your truck driving career.

Go For The Perks

It's always great to work for a company that offers a lot of perks. You'll likely be spending a significant portion of your day behind the wheel so it helps if you are employed by an organization that will reward you for your efforts. Each trucking company extends different benefits so it's important for you to compare and contrast the various options before you start applying.

For example, some trucking companies are willing to pay employees to get their commercial driver's license (CDL). There may be several weeks of both in-class and behind-the-wheel training so you are fully prepared to take the examination and pass with flying colors. This is a pretty big deal, especially if you are out of work right now and can't afford to pay the costs for your CDL without assistance.

You also want to be on the lookout for traditional benefits such as medical, vision, and dental coverage, along with some of the more unique allowances such as discounted lodging when you are traveling, and partnerships with eating establishments so you can get a hot meal without spending a lot of cash.

How Much Time Will You Be Away From Home?

If you value family life and don't want to be away from your home for extended lengths of time, it's critical for you to pay attention to the work/life balance. Decide within yourself how long you are willing to drive before you're able to get back to your loved ones and only select from companies who can afford you this privilege.

Truck driving jobs can be exciting, interesting, and a lot of fun. Start looking at different companies so you can land the job of your dreams as soon as possible.

Tips for Navigating Your Transportation Options While on Vacation

Many travelers face the same dilemma while on vacation -- is it better to rent a car or take taxis? I made some guidelines for myself to determine which transportation option to use during each vacation. First, I always rely on taxi-cabs in large cities, as I can walk many places and driving in heavy traffic is not for me. Rental cars are best for quieter locations. Second, I determine what is on my itinerary, if I have one at all. If I have a strict plan of where I need to go and when, then I take a cab. If I don't have a tight, planned-out schedule, then a rental car is more useful for driving around and checking out scenery. I created this blog to encourage others to stop stressing over which transportation option you choose and when. Make your own guidelines to make the choice easier.
